Samuel Mordecai (1786-1865) - "Speaking of Mr. Poe..."

Listen as Samuel Mordecai gives a eulogy to the recently deceased Mr. Edgar Allen Poe. Mr. Mordecai knew both Edgar and his mother, the famous actress Elizabeth Poe. His book on Richmond's history- Richmond in By-Gone Days, testifies to his wit and observational ability.
Touching on the highlights of Poe's life, ( including stories of gambling, drinking, and drug addiction) his talk disputes some of the myths that surround the writer. Some of the stories are true, however.
As a fitting closing, Mr. Mordecai offers dramatic readings of some of the author's best works.

Speaking of Mr. Poe runs 45 minutes with a 15 minute question and answer period. The readings are The Cask Of Amontillado, The Raven, and The Tell-Tale Heart. The show can be customized to run from 15 minutes to as long as needed, with choice of readings left to your discretion.
